Are you ready to vote?
With less than two months to go until the Local Government elections (council elections), residents of East Ayrshire are being reminded to make sure they can vote on Thursday 5 May.
Returning Officer Eddie Fraser said: “We want everyone to have their say on polling day so it’s important that anyone who isn’t yet registered to vote does so by midnight on Monday 18 April.
“Registering is easy, and you can do it online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in just a few minutes. Anyone without internet access can contact the Electoral Registration Office at Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board on 01292 612221 and they can take your details over the telephone and get you registered.
“We don’t want anyone who is eligible to vote to miss out on their chance to do so. If you’re 16 or over and resident in Scotland you can vote in the council elections regardless of where you were born. Make sure you are registered and that nothing stops you voting on 5 May for the people who will represent you in the council and help to make decisions about how your local services are provided.”
Even if you think you won’t be able to make it to a polling station on 5 May, you can still have your say by applying to vote by post or proxy. Registration and postal vote and proxy forms are all available by calling 01292 612221 or visit www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter
