Auchinleck Primary and Early Childhood Centre celebrate recent inspection report!

Auchinleck Primary School and Early Childhood Centre has received the results of their recent inspection, published on Tuesday 3 March, by Education Scotland.

The school was inspected in January by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) over the course of a week. In their report the inspectors highlighted key strengths, including ‘the collective responsibility and positive attitude for continued improvement shared by all staff’, the calm learning environment, which is ‘enabling children to thrive’ and the ‘caring and nurturing ethos across the school and nursery which is underpinned by highly positive relationships’. The children were described as ‘happy, polite, respectful and welcoming’.

Headteacher, Lee McPhail, was praised by inspectors for providing effective leadership and direction, while the staff team were praised for ‘working very well together through clearly defined leaderships roles’.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People visited the school to congratulate Headteacher Lee McPhail and his team, along with local members Councillor Linda Mabon, Councillor William Lennox and Councillor Alyson Simmons, and Assistant Director of Education, Graham McGinn.

Councillor Cowan said: “I was very pleased to visit Auchinleck Primary to congratulate Headteacher Lee McPhail and the whole school on their positive report.

“From speaking to the teaching and support staff, and to the children about the inspection, it is clear that everyone is very proud of their school and their report.

‘I was particularly pleased that one of the key strengths identified by the inspectors was - ‘teachers provide consistent and creative approaches to teaching and delivering the curriculum that support children’s learning well’. This was evident within the school and from chatting with the children.”

Headteacher Lee McPhail said: “The inspectors from Education Scotland joined us for a week in January and participated in all aspects of school life. The children had a really important role to play in the inspection process, meeting and talking with the inspectors.

“I was very pleased that the inspectors highlighted that our staff and the children are very respectful of each other and that our school values are demonstrated daily through positive interactions. Our school values are paramount to achieving success for our children and underpin all the work we do within the school and early childhood centre. We are focused on providing learning experiences that are fun, relevant and challenging; on creating a safe, happy and caring environment where everyone is treated with respect and to support every child to achieve their individual goals.

“We are also committed to working with families to maximise our children’s potential and a big part of that is pushing for improved attendance. Having children present and engaged in school whenever possible is a shared goal.

“The inspection process was a very positive and productive experience and, as a school, we look forward to working in partnership with Education and Skills Services on areas identified for continuous improvement.”
