EAC Shankly Football Tournament 20

Bill Shankly Memorial Football Festival

This year’s Bill Shankly football festival was another great success with eleven schools taking part in the annual event.

A total of 110 P5-7 pupils from Auchinleck, Catrine, Drongan, Mauchline, Muirkirk, Ochiltree, St Patrick’s, New Cumnock, Netherthird, Logan and Lochnorris took part.

Cumnock Juniors Community Enterprise kindly allowed Ayrshire College students and Active Schools to use their facilities and the pupils thoroughly enjoyed the experience of playing in Cumnock Juniors football park.

Three Ayrshire College students took the reins this year and were integral to the planning and running of the event. The format involved two group stages, with the winners of each group meeting in the final to play for the Bill Shankly memorial trophy.

St Patrick’s and Lochnorris were the group winners who battled it out in an extremely close final which finished 3-3. Penalty kicks were all that could separate them and St Patrick’s eventually came out on top.

Depute Provost John McGhee and local elected members watched on before handing out certificates to the participants and the trophy to the winners.
