Burns Monument Centre to hold wedding open day as it launches renovated marriage suite

The Burns Monument Centre is excited to be launching its newly renovated marriage suite as part of a wedding open day on Sunday 23 March 2025.

Couples who are planning their big day are invited to attend the free event with their friends and family between 1pm and 3pm where they’ll get the chance to see the newly decorated Robert Burns Suite which has just undergone an impressive makeover and will be officially opened by Provost Claire Leitch.

A special offer of a £100 discount will also be extended to any couple that books their ceremony while at the open day (a statutory fee of £155 will still apply and the ceremony is to be carried out by a Burns Monument Centre Registrar).

Local suppliers including Newmilns company Saxen Interiors and some of the Council’s own teams have been involved in the refurbishment of the marriage suite which has focused on reusing and upcycling much of the current furniture to give it a new lease of life.

Saxen Interiors have transformed the room’s 84 guest chairs by stripping, sanding and repainting them before replacing the seat fabric with a luxurious blush and grey velvet. They also helped to transform the Jean Armour Room where the bride can relax before the ceremony. Some furniture has been added using the same pinks and greys as the Robert Burns Suite to create a co-ordinated and calming environment.

The Council’s Outdoor Services and Graphic Design teams have worked together to create and install a bespoke design for the front of the existing Registrars’ desk, while the photo frames and mirror in the Jean Armour Room were re-used and foiled in rose gold.

At the open day itself, a reception refreshment will welcome guests on arrival and the afternoon will provide the perfect opportunity for people to meet local wedding suppliers that provide cars, cakes, balloons, flowers, photography, stationery, bridal wear, kilt hire and more.

Friendly and experienced Registration staff will also be available to give advice to anyone thinking about getting married at the Burns Monument Centre, and guests can view the paved courtyard set around the magnificent Burns Monument itself, an ideal place for photographs on a wedding day.

Guests can also find out more about being able to live stream their ceremony and order copies of the footage if they want to have a special keepsake of their day, as well as hearing about the opportunity to include a photo tribute or slideshow during their ceremony in addition to their own personalised playlist.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, said: “We’re very excited for people to see the newly renovated marriage suite which offers couples not only a stunning location, but some special new and improved features such as the live streaming, slideshow and playlists.

“Our thanks go to the local suppliers and teams within the Council who have helped to carry out the work in such a sustainable and cost-conscious way, allowing us to reduce waste and extend the lifespan of the existing furniture.

“We look forward to welcoming guests to the centre where they’ll also get to chat with a range of local wedding suppliers who can help to make their big day even more special.”
