***Revised version***Celebrating VE Day 75 from home
Friday 8 May is the 75th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe and East Ayrshire Council is hoping that people will join them in marking the day virtually and from their own home.
Due to the coronavirus situation, local and national VE Day 75 events have had to be cancelled or postponed, but the Council has come up with alternative ways for people to celebrate without having to leave their house.
You can go on to the Council’s Facebook page on 8 May and post your messages, photos, memories or tributes from WWII and VE Day, and reminisce with others. You could also enjoy an afternoon tea at home, print out a poster to display in your window, get the kids to make bunting or if you’re a piper, you could play “When the Battle’s O’er” on your doorstep at 3pm on 8 May to remember those who lost their lives.
More details are available at https://www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/CouncilAndGovernment/VE-Day/VE-day.aspx where you can also watch a video created especially for VE Day 75 featuring a selection of photos and objects from the East Ayrshire Council Collections relating to wartime life for soldiers and civilians in Ayrshire during World War II.
