Civic recognition for Kilmarnock FC’s Youth Team Under 18s

Provost Claire Leitch presented a certificate of civic recognition to Kilmarnock Football Club’s Youth Team Under 18s to acknowledge the team’s impressive Scottish FA Youth Cup win in April this year.

At an event held at Council Chambers, the Provost praised the team and coaches for their historic 2-0 win against Dundee at Hampden Park, this being only the second time that Kilmarnock has won the Scottish FA Youth Cup, the first being in 2004.

Provost Leitch said: “What a night that must have been for the team as they won under the lights of the oldest international stadium in the world. They showed everyone what it means to wear the badge of Kilmarnock, with pride and with passion.

“It was through the contribution of the whole team that this victory was made possible. Through sheer commitment, ambition and determination, the team worked its way impressively and decisively through all of the rounds to reach the final, where they clinched the Cup win by showing real character and a composure far beyond their years.

“We are all very proud of the team and I was delighted to recognise them in a civic capacity. We now can’t wait to see what they go on to achieve next.”
