Community group leading the way in New Cumnock

New Cumnock Development Trust has been working hard to help the most vulnerable people in our communities during the current coronavirus situation.

The Trust has been busy helping local people with their shopping as well as distributing donations of baked goods from the local Pathhead bakery. There is now a bank of local volunteers who are helping out their neighbours and other local residents.

So far throughout East Ayrshire, over 80 community groups and projects have got involved with delivering shopping and prescriptions, making befriending phone calls and preparing meals for local residents. They have also been offering support to care homes and sheltered housing. This equates to over 400 registered key volunteers in our local communities. Volunteer drivers are also supporting the free school meals and foodbank services within East Ayrshire, alongside local delivery efforts.

East Ayrshire Council’s Vibrant Communities Service has been co-ordinating the community response to the crisis, including linking together volunteer efforts across nine Community Resilience Hubs.

New Cumnock Development Trust has been receiving lovely feedback from residents, with one message saying: “My gran phoned to day she has received a delivery of baked goods and she was over the moon. Such a lovely thing to help others who are unable to get out and about.”
