Council launches Property Pledge

Anyone and everyone who uses East Ayrshire Council property is being asked to take a ‘Property Pledge’ to help maintain and preserve Council buildings.

The Property Pledge was launched this week at Onthank Primary School which has recently undergone a significant programme of internal enhancements, carried out by the Council’s Facilities and Property Management service and the Council’s contractor CBC.

The Pledge aims to promote a sense of pride and co-ownership in those who use, work in and visit Council buildings and encourages them to highlight any aspects that require attention to the premise manager. School caretakers, headteachers, janitors, premise managers and community representatives will all be asked to sign the pledge on behalf of the property they work in or use.

The initiative will also help to drive up standards of workmanship as Council contractors pledge to deliver a quality repair service, with their workmanship being rated by property support staff.

Representatives from the Council and members of the Parent Council were welcomed to Onthank Primary by Head Teacher Alison Wright, teaching staff and pupils, before signing the pledge to work together to keep the building, and its fixtures and fittings, in the best standard possible.

Further pledge signings are being planned for Hillhead, Whatriggs, Muirkirk and Logan Primary Schools, and the Property Pledge will continue to be rolled out across Council premises from schools to health and social care, and leisure to office accommodation. 

After signing the Pledge, Councillor Jim Roberts, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure, said: “This pledge is about much more than just the maintenance of our buildings; it’s about encouraging everyone to take an interest and pride in the buildings we use and enjoy. 

“When we work together, we can help sustain our buildings to ensure they can be enjoyed for years to come, irrespective of their age or design. The Property Pledge sets out the Council’s commitment, as well as those of building users, and is a great way for everyone to play a role in helping to preserve their condition.”
