Courageous Colin receives civic recognition for act of bravery

Provost Jim Todd presented council joiner Colin Pettigrew with a certificate of civic recognition this week to recognise an outstanding act of bravery.

In July 2022, Colin rescued a woman who’d been trapped in a house fire in Drongan. Upon seeing the fire, Colin got his ladder, climbed to the first floor of the property and managed to reach the woman and get her to safety before emergency services took over.

Colin then calmly put his ladder back in his van and headed off to his next job to fit a bath panel!

Provost Todd said: “I know that everyone in Housing Asset Services is very proud of Colin for helping to save this woman’s life, but the whole Council is also extremely proud of his heroic efforts. Without his quick thinking, there could have been a very different and tragic outcome that day. Colin is very humble about the part he played in the rescue, but we wanted to give him the civic recognition he truly deserves and thank him for his unselfish act of bravery.”
