Crosshouse Primary School and Communication Centre is taking shape
Work is well underway at Crosshouse Primary School and Communication Centre where an investment of £6.8m will see the school completely refurbished and a new extension built on site.
The refurbishment and extension, which is being carried out by Fleming Buildings Ltd and due to be completed late summer, will provide our children with new, light and bright classrooms and a variety of exciting and flexible indoor and outdoor spaces.
The two-storey extension will house a new integrated dining and PE block, five additional teaching spaces for both primary school and communication centre use and eight communication centre classrooms that will each have dedicated quiet rooms. The existing building will be completely refurbished and outside the children will enjoy a new running and cycling sport track, sports pitch and fun landscaped areas for outdoor learning and play.
Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture was joined on site by local member and Leader of the Council, Councillor Douglas Reid, and local members for Ward 3 Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse, Councillors Tom Cook and Lillian Jones. Councillor Campbell said: “I was very pleased to visit Crosshouse Primary School and view the progress on site. The extension is really taking shape and it is easy to imagine how impressive the school is going to be when it is completed.
“I know that the children are really excited about their new school and are planning special events in the coming months, including a time capsule to capture their memories of their old school. Head Teacher Mrs Gaitens will continue to work closely with the team from Fleming and keep parents and carers up to date as the new building takes shape.”
