Dance summer school fun
Nearly 100 young people from across East Ayrshire got their dancing shoes on for an exciting week-long Dance Summer School.
Running daily at the William McIlvanney Campus in Kilmarnock from 10am–3pm, the programme gave young people the chance to explore a variety of styles – from energetic hip-hop and vibrant jazz to the elegance of traditional classical Indian dance.
The week culminated in a spectacular Friday showcase, performed in front of a packed audience. Families, friends and community members were treated to a dazzling display of talent, teamwork and creativity. Participants not only built confidence and developed new dance skills, but also formed lasting friendships.
Zara Smith, Cultural Coordinator for Dance and Movement, who led the week, said: “It was amazing to watch the progression of the young people throughout the week. Their energy, commitment and the friendships they built made the showcase an unforgettable celebration of their hard work.”
The summer school highlights East Ayrshire’s commitment to providing inspiring, accessible opportunities for young people to learn, grow and express themselves through the arts.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People said: “The dance summer school provided our young people with an outlet for their creative energy. They learned new skills, grew in confidence and made new friends.
“The feedback from parents and carers has been exceptional and this is credit to Zara Smith and all the coaches involved in the programme. They have created a warm and welcoming summer school, which everyone has thoroughly enjoyed. Well done to everyone involved.”
