East Ayrshire celebrates Learning Disability Awareness Week

A mixture of sports, games, singing and walking made up the many events that were held across East Ayrshire to mark Learning Disability Awareness Week, seven days which celebrate the inclusion of people with learning disabilities in our communities.

Now in its eighteenth year, the week featured a Tea in the Park and All Ability Sports Day in Cumnock; games, chats and tea in Kilmarnock; a health walk in Howard Park and karaoke at the Clansman Bar in Kilmarnock.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Member for Social Care and Mental Wellbeing, said: “Learning Disability Awareness Week is a chance for people with learning disabilities in our communities to really shine. It allows them to share their skills, talents and attributes and it’s fantastic to hear how much they’ve enjoyed this week’s events. The week has also highlighted all of the excellent work that goes on across East Ayrshire and between partner agencies to help people with learning disabilities.”
