East Ayrshire Council by-elections results

Jayne Sangster (Scottish Labour Party) has been elected to serve as Councillor for Ward 3 (Kilmarnock West and Crosshouse), and Jim Kyle (Scottish Labour Party) has been elected for Ward 9 (Doon Valley) following the local government by-election on Thursday 14 November 2024.

The by-elections were held following the resignation of Councillors Lillian Jones and Elaine Stewart who are now serving as MPs for Kilmarnock & Loudoun and Ayr, Carrick & Cumnock respectively.

The results were as follows:

Ward 3 candidates

  • Allan MacDonald, Scottish Conservative and Unionist: 623
  • Lee Manley, Scottish Liberal Democrats: 145
  • Stephen McNamara: 75
  • Marie Robertson, Scottish National Party (SNP): 1,025
  • Jayne Sangster, Scottish Labour Party: 1,213

The current electorate for Ward 3 is 13,260.

Number of ballot papers received: 3,109

The turnout figure for the Ward 3 by-election was 23.4%.

Number of rejected ballot papers: 28

  • Tracey Clark, Scottish Conservative and Unionist: 410
  • Trevor Gordon Grant, Scottish Liberal Democrats: 68
  • Jim Ireland, Independent: 172
  • Jim Kyle, Scottish Labour Party: 516
  • Stef McNamara: 9
  • Lorraine Pollock, Scottish National Party (SNP): 379
  • Korin Matthew Vallance, Scottish Greens: 48

The current electorate for Ward 9 is 8,763.
