East Ayrshire Council sets its budget for 2026/27
East Ayrshire Council has agreed a balanced budget for 2026/27, allocating £461 million to support services across the area.
Councillors approved a 6.9% increase in Council Tax, bringing the Band D rate to £1,717.28. Despite the rise, it remains the lowest increase across Ayrshire. Members also committed an additional £4.5 million in recurring funding to strengthen health and social care services.
Council acknowledged the significant financial pressures facing the Health and Social Care Partnership. In December 2025, £6.5 million was allocated to help stabilise the Partnership’s budget, with a further contribution planned to ensure a balanced position by 31 March 2026.
A summit will take place in six weeks to shape the next phase of the Council’s £40 million ten‑year Early Intervention and Prevention Fund. The Fund currently supports a wide range of initiatives, including half‑price school meals, apprenticeships, early years clothing grants and wellbeing programmes. The summit will also review available funding sources aimed at tackling poverty and inequalities.
In February 2026, 914 residents contributed feedback via an online survey and local engagement events. Their views helped shape the final budget and highlight community priorities.
