East Ayrshire gears up for the future with new Strategic Plan consultation
East Ayrshire Council’s priorities for the next five years are up for discussion with a new Strategic Plan Consultation, launched this week, which is calling on residents, businesses and organisations to comment on the authority’s future decision making and service delivery.
Available to see and complete on the Council’s website, the Consultation identifies six key areas for comment as part of the new Strategic Plan to deliver the Council’s vision and ambition for East Ayrshire communities.
- Building a fairer economy
- Tackling poverty and inequality
- Improving community wellbeing
- Supporting children and young people
- Delivering a Clean, Green East Ayrshire
- Securing financial sustainability and ensuring resilience
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of East Ayrshire Council commented: “Over the past 10 years we’ve transformed our services, while continuing to keep people and communities at the heart of everything we do. This hasn’t always been easy in the face of constant budget restraints and cuts, and it has meant we’ve had to change the way we undertake many of our functions, including switching to greater use of technology, rationalising the number of buildings we run, and making our services more efficient and flexible.
“As we move into a new phase, post-pandemic, it’s clear that the impact of Covid on people and business is still very much evident in our communities. Allied with the knock on effects of brexit, climate change, the Ukraine situation and the current cost of living crisis, we know that everyone faces challenging times ahead.
“That’s why this new Strategic Plan Consultation couldn’t come at a better time. We’ve always taken public engagement on our plans very seriously, and this gives us a chance, together with our community planning partners, businesses and residents to take stock, look at what we’re currently doing, what we need to do in the future, and how we can get there within budgets and resources available to us.
“This is a chance for everyone in East Ayrshire to take a look at what we do and help us change where we need to, and plan a bright, more environmentally friendly and prosperous future for our communities.
“We know that the most successful decisions come from those who are actively involved and affected by the outcomes of those decisions.
“We’d urge everyone who cares about their community, our services and the way we all plan for the future, to take a look at this consultation, give us their views and contact us if they wish to take part in further discussions.”
The results of the Strategic Plan Consultation will be used to inform a final Strategic Plan to guide the operational direction of the Council for the next five years. You can find out more and take part in the consultation on the Strategic Plan Consultation webpages
