East Ayrshire is first council in Scotland to pay SSSC registration fee

East Ayrshire Council will become the first local authority in Scotland to pay Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration fees for lower paid employees.

At the recent meeting of the Council’s Cabinet, it was agreed that from Wednesday 16 June the Council would pay professional fees for employees up to and including G5, which is currently an hourly rate of up to £11.62.

Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said: “I am very pleased that we reached an agreement at Cabinet and that we will now pay the professional fees for our lower paid employees. This means that the Council, with the full support of the Trade Unions, will pay the current Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration fees for Community Care Officers, Early Years Support Assistants, Graduate Apprentices (Early Years), Hostel Support Workers and Housing Support Officers.

"For many of these workers, this is the first step on their career path and membership of professional organisations is essential to securing employment in the first instance and also assisting with professional development throughout their career. Our employees are our best assets and it’s vital that we continue to support them during their career, to strengthen the quality of our workforce.”
