East Ayrshire marks VJ Day

Members of the Royal British Legion and guests joined East Ayrshire Council to commemorate Victory over Japan Day, and 80 years since the end of World War 2.

A special VJ Day flag was raised at Council HQ in Kilmarnock to remember the contribution made by all those who served in the war, and particularly those who lost their lives.

Provost Leitch said: “On this anniversary, we remember the day when one of the most devastating conflicts in human history finally came to an end.

“We honour the sacrifices made by the millions who served, and especially those who never returned home. We also remember the courage of our veterans, the resilience of our communities, and the enduring hope for peace that carried so many through unimaginable times.”
