Final works commence on New Cumnock Flood Scheme
Work will start on Monday 18 February on the final stage of the £1.2 Flood Prevention Scheme at the Leggate in New Cumnock.
The flood prevention works have been designed to protect properties in the immediate vicinity of the Connel Burn from future flooding and have been a combination of engineering measures, earth embankments and reinforced concrete walls that help to contain any floodwaters within the Connel Burn.
Re-profiling of the ground and the existing burn bank has also taken place to allow excess waters to be re-directed downstream of the Connel Burn Bridge. The final part of the project will see the adjustment of the profile of the B741 carriageway that will complement the work carried out to date.
The works are extensive and will include a complete replacement of sections of the road, a new vertical alignment of this stretch and associated bridge works.
The work start on Monday 18 February and last for six weeks.
The road will be closed for the duration of the works and a diversion will be in place via the Boig Road towards Cumnock and back to New Cumnock; via B741, A76, A70, B7046, U743 Newfield and C 36 Boig Rd and vice versa.
Residents will still have vehicular access to and from their properties throughout the works.
Access for emergency services and pedestrians will be maintained throughout the closure.
A complimentary bus service will be provided each Tuesday and Friday, during the closure period, to ensure that local residents are kept mobile while the works are ongoing.
The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, on behalf of the Council, thanks you for your consideration and patience while these essential works are undertaken.
