Cllr Cowan and Cllr Sangster congratulate Flowerbank ECC on their recent inspection

Flowerbank Early Childhood Centre celebrates HMIE report

Flowerbank Early Childhood Centre (ECC) is celebrating the results of their recent inspection, published last month, by Education Scotland.

The ECC was inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) back in May and were marked ‘very good’ across key indicators. In their report the inspectors highlighted key strengths including ‘confident, happy children who are excited to be at nursery’ and who are ‘developing important skills for life and making very good progress in their learning’.

They also highlighted the professionalism and enthusiasm of the practitioners who ‘interact sensitively and skilfully with children to extend and consolidate their learning’ and who provide ‘high-quality, meaningful learning experiences’.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People visited Flowerbank ECC to congratulate Head of Centre Margaret Blades and her team, with local member Councillor Jayne Sangster and Carol McGregor, Early Years Service Manager. Councillor Cowan said: “I was delighted to visit Flowerbank ECC to congratulate Head of Centre Margaret Blades and the whole ECC on such an excellent report.

“I love visiting Flowerbank ECC, it is always a joyful experience. To read that the inspectors highlighted the ‘relationships through the centre and with parents are highly respectful and nurturing. Everyone works together effectively to ensure the centre is a happy place where children and families thrive.’ comes as no surprise to anyone connected to the ECC. The practitioners are professional and enthusiastic, and entirely focused on ensuring the best outcomes for our youngest learners.”

Head of Centre Margaret Blades said: “The inspectors spent a week at the Early Childhood Centre in May, working closely with the whole team and liaising with our parents and carers. Their report highlights the commitment and dedication of our practitioners, who work tirelessly for the benefit of all the children in our care.

“A point of real pride for the whole team was recognition of our planned approach to observation and assessment, with the inspectors highlighting that ‘This input ensures the needs of all children are met very effectively. This includes children who have barriers to their learning and those who need extra challenge’.

“Early Years education is incredibly important for our children and their families. We are determined to help all children shine and to reach their full potential through positive learning experiences.”
