Flytipping to be reported online in East Ayrshire

The new system will enable members of community to submit a photograph of any flytipping in their community, pinpoint its position precisely on a map and provide any additional information that may help the Council investigate environmental crime.

The Council’s IT Service in partnership with the Corporate Enforcement Unit and Outdoor Services, is developing the reporting system.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Member for Older People and Community Safety said: “Tackling environmental crime is a key priority for East Ayrshire Council and online reporting will really help to make the collection and investigation of flytipping more efficient.

“The online reporting system is one part of an extensive programme of targeted action by the Council in partnership with Police Scotland. The introduction of quad bikes has had a significant impact, allowing the Police, the Council’s Corporate Enforcement Unit and Outdoor Services team to carry out patrols and investigations quickly and effectively. We want East Ayrshire to be clean, green and vibrant and are committed to doing everything we can to make this a reality.”

Councillor Sally Cogley, Chair of the Clean, Green, Vibrant Member Officer Working Group said: “I am delighted that the Council is developing an online system that will help our communities report incidences of flytipping. It will make reporting flytipping easier and more effective with reports being sent automatically to our Flytipping Hit Squads and the Corporate Enforcement Unit for investigation.

“The system is in the advanced development stage and I am very pleased to announce that local elected members will be taking part in a pilot within New Farm Loch, along with Atrium Homes in the coming weeks. Once the pilot has been assessed and tweaks are made to the reporting tool, we will be launching the system throughout East Ayrshire. Don’t worry if you don’t have access to the internet though, you will still be able to report flytipping in the normal way too.”

Joint patrols involving the Corporate Enforcement Unit, Outdoor Services and Police Scotland will be taking place within New Farm Loch targeting environmental crimes.
