Garden waste permit renewal

If you’ve got a garden waste permit, it’s now time to renew it, or you can sign up for one if you haven’t had one previously.

All 2022 permits will be valid between March and November for four-weekly collections and the cost is still £30 per bin per year. Garden waste can also still be disposed of for free at the Council’s recycling centres on Western Road, Kilmarnock and at Garlaff, near Cumnock.

There continues to be a real need to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and to increase rates of recycling. The changes in relation to garden waste which came into place last year will help with the Council’s commitment to improving the environment, which remains one of its main renewal and recovery priorities in response to COVID-19.

Residents are being asked to purchase permits as soon as possible to ensure they are registered to receive the four-weekly collections which will run from March to November 2022. You can view the recycling calendar at: Recycling calendar · East Ayrshire Council (east-ayrshire.gov.uk)

Once a permit has been purchased either online or by phone, a permit sticker will be issued which should be stuck to your garden waste bin using the instructions provided. Please ensure the new permit is clearly displayed and, if possible, place it on top of the old permit.

Please note that your sticker may take up to 21 days to arrive. Crews will have your permit information so even if you don't have it yet, your bin will still be collected.

You can renew your permit or sign up for one at www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/gardenwastepermit . Anyone who does not have access to the internet or requires assistance can call 01563 554400 (Option 6) and someone will help you order your permit over the phone.

The Council knows that residents are passionate about their communities, their gardens and green spaces and it’s keen to support them. Vibrant Communities and Greener Communities teams are there to support local residents and community groups, whether that be with community led initiatives such as community gardens and allotments, or through the garden equipment loan scheme. For further information please contact the Vibrant Communities team at vibrantcommunities@east-ayrshire.gov.uk.

Support is also on hand for eligible residents through the Garden Maintenance Scheme which provides a grass and hedge cutting service several times a year for tenants who are unable to look after their gardens.

If you are struggling to pay the £30 all at once, please call 01563 554062 for assistance.

If you are facing a change in your circumstances or are just struggling with paying your bills, advice and support is available from the Financial Inclusion Team. Call 0800 389 7750 or email info@eamoney.co.uk.
