Glenbuck road improvements continue at pace

With the weather now on our side, there is nothing stopping the Ayrshire Roads Alliance’s extensive realignment project at Glenbuck.

The works, which are being carried out by RJ McLeod (Contractors) Ltd, include major realignment of 800m of the A70 and the replacement of the bridge that carries the road over the River Ayr.

Onsite the traffic has now be diverted from the old A70 onto the new road, landscaping, including the planting of trees and shrubs has been completed, Scottish Water has installed the last section of the water main diversion and additional drainage has been installed along the C38.

Councillor Jim Roberts, Cabinet Member for Economy and Infrastructure said: “The realignment of the A70 at Glenbuck has been a very complex project. The road has been completely redesigned and a replacement bridge will carry the new road over the River Ayr. The works are progressing well and it is anticipated that, following a programmed road closure to complete the realignment, the road will open fully by the end of June.

“The Glenbuck realignment works have an important part to play in supporting the Ayrshire Growth Deal, a multi-million pound investment package that will change the face of Ayrshire. Improving infrastructure and connectivity will help to extend economic opportunity, attracting new investment to protect existing jobs and creating new employment opportunities.”
