Grange Academy recognised at Maths Challenge Awards Ceremony
Grange Academy recently attended the Scottish Mathematical Council Maths Challenge Awards ceremony hosted by Strathclyde University.
The school collected six gold, four silver and ten bronze awards, cementing their reputation for competing exceptionally well in national Mathematical competitions.
Chris Smith, Maths geek from Grange Academy had been asked to make an inspirational speech at the award ceremony and was supported in this task by former S1 pupils – Kayla, Megan, Thomas, Cole, Anna, Macey, Lilia, Skyla and Rose. He said: “It was an honour to be asked to make a speech at the award ceremony and it was even better that our young people could join me to do a mixture of ‘Magic Mondays’, which is all about mathematical tricks and ‘Sum Singing’, including classics like ‘the quadratic formula song’, ‘use a ruler’ and ‘500 Mathematical miles’.
“The young people were outstanding and showed great courage to stand up in front of over one hundred people in the Royal College lecture theatre. I was so proud of their confidence and enthusiasm.”
