Grange Academy wins hat trick of titles
Kilmarnock’s Grange Academy has become the first school in Scotland to win three Scottish Schools’ Football Association titles in just one season.
Dominating this year’s Scottish schools competitions, Grange’s S1 team won the Ayrshire Cup and the Scottish Cup, the S2 team won the Ayrshire Cup and the Scottish Cup and the S3 team, completed the hat trick, with a series of impressive team performances to lift the Ayrshire Cup and the Scottish Cup.
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council visited Grange Academy to congratulate the players and coaches on this incredible achievement. He said: “What an amazing result for Grange Academy and for East Ayrshire. To put this into perspective Grange has only ever reached five Scottish finals in its history so this result is exceptional.
“The kids have displayed determination, dedication and hard work to achieve this success. I am incredibly proud of them all.
“Grange is one of seven SFA Schools of Football and the schools supports the development of Scotland’s best young footballing talent. Our young people are given the opportunity to train everyday within a positive educational environment, meaning they get the best of both worlds and can reach their full potential.
“This success is testament to the positive environment created at Grange Academy for our young people who are encouraged to best the very best they can be.
“I would also like to take this opportunity to congratulate Kenny Sloan and Liam Smith who have been selected to attend the Under 15’s Scotland training camp this week.”
Head teacher, Robert Johnston said: “Our young people have displayed excellence, ambition, resilience, respect and a high level of responsibility to achieve this success and, as a school, we couldn’t be prouder.”
