Grange Academy Maths Camp 2025

Grange Maths Camp celebrates tenth anniversary!

Grange Academy held their annual Maths Camp recently at Gartmore House, near Aberfoyle, where the young people enjoyed a three day revision boot camp.

Maths Camp was first held back in 2015 with the aim of improving attainment in Higher and Advanced Higher Maths and to encourage interest in Advanced Higher. It has proved incredibly popular with the young people over the last ten years, and this year was no different with 80 young mathematicians taking part.

The students brushed up on their National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher Maths and Applications of Maths skills. Each session was supervised an expert team of Maths teachers from the school who volunteer their time and expertise each year ensuring Maths Camp is a huge success.

It wasn’t all maths fun though, between the study sessions the young people played games in the sports hall and bounced around on the inflatables. And the Saturday night ceilidh was a real highlight, everyone participated very enthusiastically to the tunes from Mr Smith's band, Jiggered.

Chris Smith, Maths geek from Grange Academy and Maths Camp coordinator said: “Grange Academy Maths Camp - it's the stuff of legend. Since 2015 (with an obvious break during the pandemic), hundreds of S5/6 Maths students have attended Maths Camp. This year was a huge success and the buzz around the school is still tangible. Those who were there are chatting about it. Those who didn't come are wishing they had. And the younger pupils keep asking "when are WE going to be able to go to Maths Camp?" The enthusiasm is infectious.

“A massive thanks go to the Maths Department staff who made this possible, to the team at Gartmore who made our group feel like VIPs and to our amazing young people who devoted a weekend to Maths. I can't wait until Maths Camp 2026!"

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education and, Children and Young People said: “A big thank you to the team from Grange Academy who organised and attended Maths Camp 2025.

“The tutorial sessions covered National 5 Maths, National 5 Applications, Higher Maths and Advanced Higher Maths with some students working through topic specific material, others through mixed exercises, some were given short teaching sessions on the key principles of certain concepts, while other just worked away in groups or individually.

“Well done everyone and the very best of luck to our young people in their upcoming exams in May.”
