Have your say on Hurlford street designs
Plans to improve Hurlford village centre have taken a step forward with residents and local businesses being asked for views on updated proposals.
From Wednesday 1 December, new information will be available on the project consultation website STREETS UK (streets-uk.com) explaining how the designs have been progressing and showing a suggested permanent design for the parklet area which currently has a temporary makeover.
The project is being progressed in partnership between Sustrans, East Ayrshire Council and Ayrshire Roads Alliance alongside the local community. Originally launched in 2020, previous engagement was overwhelmingly positive with people wanting to see better quality public space, a safer street environment, improved local journeys, better use of road space and strengthened community identity.
The project had to pause during COVID-19, but over the past two months site surveys have taken place and engineers have prepared detailed plans for the area including Union Street, Academy Street and Mauchline Road. Hurlford Primary school pupils have also been contributing their ideas for the permanent upgrading of the village centre parklet.
To be COVID safe, it’s been agreed that this round of consultation should predominantly take place online. However, a freephone telephone number of 0800 987 5990 has also been set up and printed copies of the updated designs are available for anyone who can’t access the information online.
The consultation closes on Friday 17 December 2021 and residents are encouraged to look at the proposals and take the opportunity to have their say as all comments will help to shape the final plans for Hurlford village centre.

Through the proposals, we want to help the community celebrate their local history and heritage, provide access for all, address vehicle dominance and speeds and enhance public spaces.
