Hillhead Primary gains Unicef RRS Bronze award
Hillhead Primary School in Kilmarnock has achieved a Unicef Rights Respecting Schools (RRS) Bronze Award for its work in creating a safe and inspiring place to learn for pupils.
Unicef works with schools to make sure childrens’ rights are respected, their talents are nurtured and to help them develop an enjoyable learning environment in which they can thrive.
The RRS Award embeds these values in daily school life and gives children the best chance to lead happy, healthy lives and to be responsible and active members of school and their community.
There are three levels of RRS award:
Gold - Rights Respecting
Silver - Rights Aware
Bronze - Rights Committed
The Award recognises a school’s achievement in putting the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child into practice within the school and beyond.
Councillor Fiona Campbell, East Ayrshire Council’s Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning I’m delighted Hillhead has achieved the Bronze award from Unicef and was pleased to learn that Unicef have praised their action plan to achieve the silver award.
“The accolade is a superb reflection on the parents, Head Teacher and staff who work hard to make sure every child can be the best they can be.”
The Unicef report noted that if Hillhead’s future progress was sustained at the same pace as their work for the Bronze award, they should achieve ‘Rights Committed’ status in 2019 and before the end of the current school year.
