Hurlford Primary and Early Childhood Centre celebrates HMIE report
Hurlford Primary School and Early Childhood Centre (ECC) has received the results of their recent inspection, published on Tuesday 16 September, by Education Scotland.
The ECC and school were inspected by His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Education (HMIE) back in May. In their report the inspectors highlighted key strengths, including the nurturing and inclusive atmosphere, which has ensured that ‘children are happy, confident and proud of their school and ECC’ and that ‘children feel included and valued’.
Led by Headteacher, Gillian Campbell, the staff were praised for supporting children’s wellbeing ‘very well’ and for creating a culture that ensured all children developed ‘a strong appreciation of their wellbeing and its impact on their lives in and outside of school and ECC’. The inspectors also highlighted the extensive range of experiences the children enjoy in STEM subjects, which has helped them to develop their creativity, problem solving and critical thinking skills linked to real-life experiences.
Inspectors also praised the opportunities for the children to experience success and develop a range of skills from participating in a wide range of clubs, committees and groups. This work has been identified as successfully developing children’s leadership roles and skills for learning, life and work.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People visited the school to congratulate Headteacher Gillian Campbell and her team, with local members Councillors Graham Boyd, Graham Barton and Barry Douglas, and Assistant Director of Education, Graham McGinn.
Councillor Cowan said: “I was delighted to visit Hurlford Primary and Early Childhood Centre to congratulate Headteacher Gillian Campbell and the whole school on such a positive report.
“I really enjoyed visiting the schools and speaking to the teaching and support staff, and to the children and young people, about the inspection and to hear just how much this report means to them all. It was clear from our visit how confident the children were and the great pride they felt in their school. I was delighted to offer my congratulations on behalf of the Council and to let them know how proud we are.”
Headteacher Gillian Campbell said: “A team of six inspectors from Education Scotland joined us for a week back in May and participated in all aspects of ECC and school life. The children and young people had a vital role to play in the inspection process, meeting and talking with the inspectors.
“Our report is a credit to our children and of course, the dedicated staff who work tirelessly to ensure that our children feel safe and secure at school, and are enabled to reach their full potential.
“There are areas of improvement that have been identified by the inspectors and we are committed to continual improvement in partnership with colleagues within Education Services.
“Our goal is to allow our children and young people to shine, and for the inspectors to recognise the strengths of our children and young people means a great deal to everyone connected with the school.”
