Hurlford Primary School extension official opening

Pupils from Hurlford Primary School and Early Childhood Centre proudly showed off their fantastic new extension when Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning performed the official opening recently.

The building was comprehensively upgraded with modern dining facilities, fully refurbished toilets, new playrooms and improved accessibility.

With an investment of £3.6m from East Ayrshire Council, the whole fabric of the impressive historic building has been refurbished and the external play areas redesigned.

As part of the celebrations, pupils from Primary One and children from the Early Childhood Centre performed a selection of ‘bear songs’; Arwen Burns (P6) performed a wonderful violin solo of Over the Rainbow and Londonderry Air Melody while Primary 5 closed the show with a high octane performance of Mamma Mia.

Councillor Fiona Campbell was joined by Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council, Depute Provost Claire Leitch, local members Councillors John Campbell and Jon Herd, representatives from the Parent Council and the Community Council, She said: “I was delighted to officially open Hurlford Primary School and Early Childhood Centre’s extension. The children were so happy and excited to show me their new facilities that have been completely transformed thanks to a £3.6m investment by the Council.

“Education is our priority and we are continuing to drive to give our youngest residents unparalleled opportunities to succeed, from the first steps on their learning journey, right through to their final year at school and beyond.

“These facilities will give our children and young people, a superb, bright and inspirational learning environment which will continue to inspire for many more generations to come.”
