Improvement works A713 and A70

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance, as part of its ongoing programme to improve the condition of the road network, will be carrying out essential road resurfacing works on a section of the A713 Ayr to Dalmellington Road and two sections on the A70 Cumnock to Douglas Road, starting on Monday 27 July.

The roadworks, will involve, removing sections of the existing road surface, regulating, adjusting ironware, laying a new surface course and renewing the associated road markings and studs.

To ensure the safety of the roads operatives and the travelling public three sections of road will require to be closed over a number of weekends, when signed accordingly.

During the weekend road closures Stagecoach are proposing to run a shuttle bus service, where appropriate. For further information please contact Stagecoach on 01292 613541, Monday to Friday from 06:30 to 18:30.

Location 1

A713 between Hollybush and Polnessan

Work on this section is due to start on Monday 27 July and will continue for up to three weeks.

All preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays between 08.00 and 17.00. Convoy traffic management will be in place and delays are possible.

Three weekend road closures will be required to lay the new surface course.

Road closures will be in place from 08:00 to 18:00 on Saturday 1 and Sunday 2 August, Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August and Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August.

An alternative route will be signed via B730 to Coalhall, A70 to Coylton, B742 to rejoin the A713 and vice versa.

There will be no access to, or from, the adjoining C21 Craigs Road during the weekend road closures.

Location 2

A70 between Cumnock and Muirkirk

Work on this section is due to start on Monday 3 August and will continue for up to three weeks.

All preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays between 08.00 and 17.00.

Convoy traffic management will be in place and delays are possible.          

Up to three weekend road closures will be required to lay the new surface course.

Road closures will be in place from 08:00 to 18:00 on Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 August, Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 August and may also be required on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August.

An alternative route will be signed via B743 to Mauchline, A76 to Cumnock before re-joining the A70 and vice versa.

There will be no access to or from the adjoining U731 Greenock Water Road (section from A70 Nether Wellwood Farm to B743 junction) during the working hours.

Location 3

A70 between Muirkirk and Glenbuck

Work on this section is due to start on Monday 17 August and will continue for up to two weeks.

All preparatory work will be undertaken on weekdays between 08.00 and 17.00.

Convoy traffic management will be in place and delays are possible.

Up to two weekend road closures may be required to lay the new surface course.

Road closures may be in place from 08:00 to 18:00 on Saturday 22 and Sunday 23 August and on Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 August.

An alternative route will be signed via B743 to Strathaven, A71 to Stonehouse, B7078 to re-join the A70 near Douglas and vice versa.

The Ayrshire Roads Alliance will take measures to ensure that the A70 locations are not closed at the same time.

Emergency access will be maintained during the closures and through the works sites.

It is hoped that the resurfacing work will be completed within the timescales stipulated, however the work is weather dependent and any unforeseen difficulties could result in a delay.
