Jay’s Christmas wish comes true
Ayrshire Roads Alliance (ARA) helped to make a young boy’s Christmas wish come true this week by bringing some special light into his life.
Six year-old Jay Hood, who has autism, absolutely loves street lights. As his Christmas wish was for Santa to bring him the street lamp that sits opposite his house, Jay’s head teacher at Willowbank School, Tracy Smallwood, contacted ARA to see if there was any way they could help with what was obviously a very difficult request!
Yvonne Kerr from ARA came up with the idea of placing a special plaque with the words “Jay’s Christmas Wish” on the lamp post and also to present him with a scaled-down toy street light. Jay also got the chance to sit in the street lighting van and to turn the beacons on.
Tracy Smallwood said: “I would like to send a massive thank you to everyone at Ayrshire Roads Alliance and East Ayrshire Council who made Jay’s wish come true. Jay and his mum were delighted with this incredibly kind gesture. It's one which shows that real community spirit is alive and well within East Ayrshire.”
