King Street update 23 July

Here's our update on the demolition works and restricted access on King Street following last week's fire.

We have now received the Structural Engineer's report. This confirmed that a risk assessment is required before any decisions can be made about re-opening more areas.

We understand that this is frustrating, but safety remains our absolute priority, both for the public and for those working on site.

Demolition work has continued all day today, with plans to continue tomorrow with the demolition of the higher elevation, which has been identified as structurally unsafe.

At this stage, we are uncertain how the building will react to these works. This will need to be carefully assessed in real time.

We will issue a further update on Friday, once tomorrow's phase of demolition is complete and the site has been reassessed.

We will shortly be issuing details of grant funding for businesses, available in varying degrees to those who have lost their premises to the fire and those who have been affected by this prolonged closure.
