Kirkin’ o’ the Council

East Ayrshire’s re-elected new Provost, Jim Todd and many of his fellow East Ayrshire councillors attended the traditional Kirkin’ o’ the Council ceremony last weekend.

A service at St Marnock’s Church, Kilmarnock marked the start of the new Council term, a practice that has become customary over the years.

The Kirkin’ takes place in churches throughout East Ayrshire and visits to the Church of Scotland, Roman Catholic and Congregational Establishments are organised in sequence. The first Kirkin’ ceremony was held at Cumnock Congregational Church in 2003.

Provost Todd said: “Last weekend I had the honour of leading the procession of councillors into St Marnock’s Church for our now traditional ‘Kirkin’ o’ the Council’. I was delighted that some of our community planning partners and senior council officers could also join us for this event.

“I’m grateful to Reverend Jim McNaughtan who presided over the service and to the local congregation who made us feel so welcome.”
