Lions, ogres and minions spotted in East Ayrshire parks as cinema goes outdoors

The clean ups took place in Stewarton, Auchinleck, Kilmarnock, Dalmellington and Newmilns between 12pm and 4pm and the participants were thanked for their help with an exciting cinema experience, complete with popcorn, at 7pm in their local park.

The large LCD screen rolled into Cocklebie Park, Stewarton for a showing of Shrek; Merlin Loch Park, Auchinleck for the live action Lion King; Howard Park, Kilmarnock for Toy Story 3; Doon Academy, Dalmellington for Minions Movie and Jamieson Park, Newmilns for Madagascar.

Councillor Jim McMahon, Cabinet Member for Community Safety, Roads and Transport and Community Cohesion said: "The community clean ups and outdoor cinema events have been extremely well supported by our local families and communities with hundreds signing up for free tickets to each event.

"Across East Ayrshire we have seen communities coming together to collect litter and clean up local streets then join together again in the evening to watch a movie. Everyone brought their own chairs and blankets to the outdoor cinema, while Vibrant Communities provided the popcorn.

"Feedback I have received expressed how much they enjoyed the outdoor cinema experience and the strong community spirit they felt. It definitely helped that despite the torrential downpours each day, the sun would come out without fail at 7pm.

"I would like to thank Vibrant Communities, who worked in partnership with Greener Communities, for bringing our communities together in such a positive way. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank our golden ticket winners who went above and beyond to help our community clean up events – Zara McLeod, Keri Breckenridge and Darcey, Lynsey Kerr, Albie and Billie Sawyers, Vickie McCrindle, Darren, Ashton, Lochlin and Emilie Reid and Kayleigh Weir. Your support is very much appreciated."
