Make sure you’re registered to vote
The Scottish Parliamentary Election is coming up on Thursday 7 May and residents of East Ayrshire are being reminded to make sure they’re registered to vote.
If you’re 16 or over and resident in Scotland you can vote in the Scottish Parliamentary Election regardless of where you were born. Registering is easy, and you can do it online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote in just a few minutes. Anyone without internet access can contact the Electoral Registration Office at Ayrshire Valuation Joint Board on 01292 612221 and they can take your details over the telephone and get you registered.
Returning Officer Eddie Fraser said: “We want everyone to have their say on polling day so it’s important that anyone who isn’t yet registered, or who has recently moved house, registers to vote by midnight on Monday 20 April.
“Even if you think you won’t be able to make it to a polling station on 7 May, you can still have your say by applying to vote by post or proxy. Registration and postal vote and proxy forms are all available at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/voter or call 01292 612221 if you don’t have access to the internet.”
