Maths Camp 2023 is biggest yet!
Grange Academy’s annual Maths Camp took place recently and it was the biggest yet, with 108 young people and 14 staff taking part in the revision weekend.
The huge contingent of Mathematicians headed off from Grange for Gartmore House in Aberfoyle, eager to spend a weekend preparing for the upcoming SQA exams. Many of the young people were studying Advanced Higher Maths or Higher Maths and this year S6 students doing National 5 Maths also attended.
Resident geek of the Maths Department Mr Smith said: "This event couldn't happen without our incredible staff volunteering - big thanks go to them. But the young folk also deserve a massive shout out. It's a serious commitment to come along for an entire weekend devoted to Maths but we know the impact it has on results.
“When the 2020 Maths Camp was cancelled due to COVID, we were all gutted. There were even a few tears shed (mainly by the pupils!). Thankfully, the legend of Maths Camp is still strong and we were delighted to take over 100 young people off on this latest adventure."
It was a packed programme and in addition to hours and hours of revision, our young people were kept busy with an exhausting afternoon of inflatables, an evening ceilidh with Mr Smith's band (Jiggered), songs and toasted marshmallows around the bonfire, teams tackling an escape room, a fiercely competitive quiz, football and chess.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Lifelong Learning, Education and Skills and Culture said: “Grange Academy’s Maths Camp has been running since 2015 and is an extremely popular revision weekend for our young people.
“The team at Grange have such a unique way of encouraging our young people to engage with maths, from the youngest pupils through to the senior pupils studying for their Advanced Higher. Mr Smith and the team are dedicated to ensuring their students reach their full potential.”
