Moorfield Business Park welcomes new tenant as part of expansion plans

As part of the development of Moorfield Business Park Phase 2, East Ayrshire Council has recently completed the construction of two new industrial units (Units 4 and 5) to add to the existing three units, which were also constructed by the Council.  

Four businesses currently occupy units as part of Moorfield Phase 2 - Scotia Double Glazing, Hyspec Engineering Ltd, Dingbro Limited and Kilmarnock Powder Coating.  Scotia also lease other units within Bonnyton Industrial Estate, Kilmarnock and in Dundonald, and it is their intention to transfer production from both  to the newly constructed Unit 5 at Moorfield, with a view to consolidating all production to one location.

East Ayrshire Council Leader, Douglas Reid and Chief Executive, Eddie Fraser met with Scotia’s Managing Director, Gavin Smith, to find out more.

Gavin Smith explained: “As Scotia looks forward to entering its 40^th successive year of trading in 2022, we are delighted to be bringing all our operations together on the one campus at Moorfield Business Park.

“The addition of another 5,000m² of production capacity will allow the group to absorb its expanding aluminium division and extend the PVCu lines to accommodate Trade and New Build manufacturing under the one roof.

“We are a market leader in this industry: we are currently working towards Real Living Wage accreditation and our loyal teams have a clean, modern and safe environment in which to make windows and doors for the biggest housebuilding brands in the country.

“We are delighted to have been supported by East Ayrshire Council in this latest project and we value its commitment to one of the largest employers in the local authority area.”

Scotia currently employs 175 at its existing Moorfield base and 35 across the Bonnyton and Dundonald plants. The extra capacity provided by this move to a single location will create new employment opportunities in New Build and Aluminium fabrication.  The company is planning for an additional 12 production operatives initially and also works closely with Ayrshire College and employs students within their workforce.

Councillor Douglas Reid said: “Our ambitions for Moorfield Business Park continue to be realised, with the recent completion of these two new units as part of Phase 2, and we are delighted that Scotia have once again chosen this location as part of their expansion plans - testament indeed that local businesses are growing and thriving here.

“By providing new-build, flexible accommodation, we’re not just helping these businesses, we’re also freeing up supply of smaller units elsewhere in the area and providing new job opportunities as the companies expand.

“Moorfield has a lot to offer local companies looking to expand or organisations wanting to relocate; with easy transport links, good local service infrastructure, spacious layouts and easily adaptable units for any specification - it’s a great package!”

Demand for commercial space at Moorfield Business Park is high - the newly constructed Unit 4, also part of the Phase 2 development,  is currently under offer, as is one of the two remaining serviced plots. The remaining plot of 1.27 acres is currently being marketed for sale at a purchase price of £60,000 per acre.
