Move More Ayrshire launches

Local people were encouraged to Move More at the Ayrshire launch of Macmillan Cancer Support’s national campaign

The Move More programme ensures that people living with cancer are supported to become physically active, both before, during and after their treatment.

The three Ayrshire councils have signed up to the programme and now provide Move More classes for their local communities. The teams were on hand at the launch, to demonstrate the wonderful classes available.

In addition to the demonstrations, Macmillan Cancer Support, CanRehab, Ayrshire and Arran’s HARP project, volunteers and service users, gave informative talks, highlighting the extensive research that has been carried out into exercise and cancer rehab and the remarkable difference it can make to cancer patients.

It was then over to service users and volunteers to tell the story of their Move More motivational journeys. They spoke with feeling about the Move More classes they had attended and the benefits they had experienced. It was an emotional and moving end to a wonderful event.

Provost Jim Todd said: “I was delighted to attend the launch of Move More Ayrshire.

“Research has proven that the benefits of exercising can play a vital role in helping to prevent a recurrence of cancer. It can also slow disease progression as well as reducing the side effects and consequences of cancer treatment, such as fatigue.

“I am so proud of our employees who are part of this fantastic initiative that is changing local lives for the better.”
