EAC Eat Safe Muirkirk certificate

Muirkirk butchers scoop top food award for hygiene excellence

Muirkirk business, John Dawson Butchers Ltd has been officially recognised for their exceptional attention to hygiene standards, with an Eat Safe Award from Food Standards Scotland.

Councillor Graham Barton, Cabinet Member for Planning, Property and Environment, East Ayrshire Council, popped in to award  the Dawsons team with their certificate. He said: “It’s quite an accolade for a local butcher to win the award which recognises restaurants, cafés, takeaways and food shops which strive for exceptional food hygiene standards and go above and beyond the legal requirement.

“The Award is open to all types of food outlets, from casual cafés to five star restaurants.  Outlets are assessed by Environmental Health and Food Safety Officers for the award during their regular food hygiene inspections.

“All food outlets have to have a food hygiene inspection, which is undertaken by the Local Authority. Following this inspection the food outlet will be given a Food Hygiene Information Scheme (FHIS) rating based on their inspection results.

“For businesses like John Dawson Butchers, the Eat Safe Award recognises that they go over and above the legal minimum standards, giving extra reassurance to customers that top quality hygiene standards are being observed at all times.

“Our Environmental Health teams are dedicated to working with businesses, schools and non-profit food outlets to uphold and improve hygiene standards across the board, and this award reflects the close co-operation between our officers and their client organisations which is producing such excellent results.”

John Dawson Butchers is based in Muirkirk but also supplies products to outlets throughout Ayrshire. Visit John Dawson website for more details
