EAC MSYP Election 20

New East Ayrshire MSYPs announced

East Ayrshire’s newly elected Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) were announced this week at East Ayrshire Council HQ.

Lucy MacKinnon from Kilmarnock Academy and Morgan McPherson from Stewarton Academy will represent the Kilmarnock and Irvine Valley constituency, and David McGilp, a former pupil of The Robert Burns Academy, will represent Carrick, Cumnock and Doon Valley.

The election announcement was made in Council Chambers by Presiding Officer Kevin Wells, Strategic Lead for Communities, who then welcomed the young people to East Ayrshire Council. The new MSYPs will be supported during the next two years by their Support Worker Heather McCormick, who is the Team Coordinator for the Young People, Sport and Diversion Team.

Councillor Elaine Cowan, Cabinet Spokesperson for Children and Young People, said: “The successful candidates are a testament to the high calibre of talent and dedication that we have seen throughout this process. We extend our congratulations to all applicants for the interest, hard work and enthusiasm they have shown during the election period.

“Our new MSYPs will no doubt make an incredible contribution to our work with children and young people throughout East Ayrshire and as such, will become valuable members of the East Ayrshire Children and Young People’s Cabinet. I wish them every success over the next two years.”
