Our resilient communities
We know that our communities will be concerned about the current situation with coronavirus. We also know that a great community spirit exists in East Ayrshire and that our communities are pulling together to help families, neighbours, loved ones and those who are most vulnerable.
We currently have over 80 community groups who have come forward to help with things like shopping, transport, collecting prescriptions, dog walking or simply providing a friendly ear for someone to talk to. You can find a full list at www.east-ayrshire.gov.uk/coronavirus or call 01563 554400 to find out what help is available.
There are also a number of businesses who can offer help with food and supplies, whether that’s cafes and coffee shops delivering food to your door or grocers who can drop off fruit and veg boxes.
Hundreds of Council employees have also volunteered to change roles and take on alternative work to provide cover and help keep our essential services running, and our communities safe.
We prepared 16,000 meals last week for families who receive free school meals and from this week, all meals will be delivered and will not need to be picked up.
We want to make sure that everyone in our communities is looked after as well as possible in these challenging times, and we thank each and every volunteer and staff member who is helping us to do this.
