Park School is top of the charts in Big Walk and Wheel challenge
Park School has come out top in the Big Walk and Wheel – the UK’s largest walking, wheeling, scooting and cycling challenge.
The challenge, which took place between 16 and 27 March, encouraged children and young people to travel actively to school and learn more about air quality improvements as a result.
In 2025, 4,550kg of nitrogen oxide was avoided as a result of the ten-day challenge and 2,880 tonnes of CO² were avoided.
Each day of the challenge, schools recorded how many pupils travelled actively and each school’s best five days were used to work out their overall standing on the leader boards.
Park School came out top in the whole of the UK!
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People said: “This is an incredible achievement by Park School – to be top in the whole of the UK, in the combined primary and secondary category, is fantastic news. The whole school really got behind this initiative and ensured that active travel was promoted, and as you can see from the photos, enjoyed each day.
"I would like to offer my congratulations to Headteacher Carol-Anne Burns and teacher Alison Harrigan who championed Big Walk and Wheel within the school and encouraged everyone to reach their full potential – which is first place in the UK!”
UK Charity, the Walk Wheel Cycle Trust organises the annual Big Walk and Wheel Challenge, which was supported by headline sponsor Schwalbe.
