Piping success for Amelia!
Warmest congratulations to Amelia from Kilmarnock Academy who has successfully gained a place in the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland Junior Band.
She began playing the pipes just two years ago when she was at primary school and has been tutored by Piping Instructor Chris Armstrong, from the Council's Instrumental Music Service.
Amelia had to provide a video audition, then attend a face-to-face audition and a workshop before finding out the amazing news that she had been selected. She has been thoroughly enjoying rehearsals and meeting pupils from schools across Scotland.
Her first concert will be at Celtic Connections at the end of January along with the NYPBS Development and Senior Bands.
Councillor Elaine Cowan, Spokesperson for Education, and Children and Young People said: "I am delighted for Amelia. Gaining a place in the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland Junior Band isn't easy. It is credit to her hardwork, dedication and of course her musical ability. I know that the Instrumental Music Service, and her Piping Instructor Chris Armstrong are very proud of her achievement. On behalf of the Council, I wish her every success."
