Probationer of the Year award goes to Onthank Primary teacher
East Ayrshire’s Probationer of the Year award has been presented to Abbie McLelland, P5 teacher at Onthank Primary.
Miss McLelland was recognised for her enthusiasm for teaching, her contribution to the school and the wider school community. In addition to normal teaching duties, she directed a school show, and has led a number of other initiatives and extracurricular clubs over the year. She is passionate about ensuring that all children receive the best possible experience through her teaching.
This was evident from talking to her class – some thought she was best at teaching PE, some thought it was maths, while one pupil said – Miss McLelland is so positive, she makes all learning fun!
Abbie McLelland said: “It is such an honour to receive the East Ayrshire Probationer of the Year award. This year has been challenging but incredibly rewarding. I have loved my class, every single one of them are superstars and they have approached learning with great enthusiasm.
“I would also like to thank my mentor, Depute Head Mrs Findlay, who has been so supportive and encouraging throughout the year.”
Linda McAulay-Griffiths, Chief Education Officer and Head of Education said: “I was delighted that Abbie McLelland received Probationer of the Year. She was recognised for her teaching skills, her passion and enthusiasm, and is a well-deserved winner from an incredibly strong group of nominees.”
Onthank Primary Head Teacher Alison Wright said: “Onthank’s school song is Heather Small’s Proud and I can tell you, Miss McLelland has made us all proud. She has been a credit to our school with her positive attitude and passion for teaching. On behalf of the whole school, I would like to wish her the very best with her future career.”
