Provost’s festive message 2022

As the festive season comes around again and we look forward to spending valuable time with our families and friends, it’s important to remember those who may be struggling at this time of year. As I am currently supporting MND Scotland as my chosen charity, I will be thinking especially about everyone who is currently living with motor neuron disease and the families and carers who are helping them to deal with this cruel disease.

MND is a rapidly progressing terminal illness which stops signals from the brain reaching the muscles. It can cause people to lose their ability to walk, talk, eat, drink or breathe unaided. I was very sad to hear of the recent passing of rugby player Doddie Weir from MND, an incredible man who did so much to increase people’s understanding of the disease and who was committed to realising his vision of a world free of MND.

MND Scotland’s mission is to ‘make time count’ for people who are living with MND and I hope that with your help, we can all do our bit to raise awareness and funding to provide support, and ultimately to find a cure, for this devastating illness.

If anyone needs support or advice on MND, they can visit mndscotland.org.uk.

I hope that this festive season is everything that you and your families wish for, and that you have a very happy and healthy New Year.
