Re:collection... life in lockdown - virtual time capsule is launched
What has lockdown meant for you? How has your life changed during this global pandemic? These last three months have witnessed some of the most extraordinary and unprecedented moments in living memory, and a new virtual project has been launched to invite people to come forward with their own lockdown stories.
The Re:Collection - Life in Lockdown is a virtual time capsule, set up on Facebook up by East Ayrshire Leisure and East Ayrshire Council, to preserve the memories and experiences of local people during the Covid-19 lockdown.
People of all ages have been affected by COVID-19 and residents of East Ayrshire are invited to share images, videos and stories that reveal how they have been dealing with lockdown, self-isolation and social distancing.
Councillor Elena Whitham, Chair of East Ayrshire Leisure praised this initiative. She said:
“COVID-19 is the biggest global crisis to hit our lifetime. There cannot be a single person alive today who has not been impacted in some way or other by this pandemic. Young or old, everyone will have a story to tell .. from the time our schools closed .. when aeroplanes stopped flying.. when our town centres fell silent.. when we learned to make bread… when we couldn’t see our friends.. when we lost loved ones.
“We want people to tell us about their experiences of lockdown to help us mark this period in our history for generations to come.
“I will be posting my own memories and I would encourage as many local residents and families as possible also take part in the project. We can bring all our memories together to create something really special to share with our families today and with future generations.”
East Ayrshire Provost Jim Todd said: “Re-Collection will provide a home for our collective memories of Lockdown in East Ayrshire. We hope that this project might help with the healing and recovery as we start to emerge from Lockdown. It will inspire imagination and creativity and will help our communities to remember and reflect on this period in our lives.
“People respond and react in different ways to a change in circumstances and I’ve been blown away by the ways in which people have been expressing their thoughts and emotions online - through music, art and literature. I urge everyone in East Ayrshire with a story to tell to come forward and share it with us on Re:Collection - to create lasting memories which will stay with us forever.”
Your contribution could be a poster created in support of the NHS, a photograph taken during a daily walk, a story or poem, a list of things you are missing or a lockdown project that has kept you occupied over the last three months.
