Rules for cemeteries are open for public consultation

Every ten years, the Council reviews and updates the Cemetery Management Rules that govern our cemeteries.

The review and any updates included in the Cemetery Management Rules are then made available for public consultation.

Due to the implementation of the Burial and Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016, it has been 12 years since the last review took place.

The new proposed Cemetery Management Rules are now available for consultation and we are looking for your views over the next four weeks. The rules are available to view from Council Headquarters, London Road, Kilmarnock or on the Council’s website.

Councillor Elena Whitham, Cabinet Member for Housing and Communities said: “We are seeking your views on the proposed Cemetery Management Rules for the next ten years. These rules are important to ensure our cemeteries run smoothly, are respected by visitors and maintained to a consistently high standard.

“I would ask that you take a bit of time to have a look at the rules and provide any feedback you may have to Bereavement Services.”

Provide your feedback by Wednesday 27 June to Bob McCulloch, Acting Head of Housing and Communities, Council HQ, London Road, Kilmarnock, KA3 7BU or email bereavementservices@east-ayrshire.gov.uk

Notes to editors

The public consultation will open on Wednesday 30 May.
