Schools' Art and Design Exhibition 2019

Talented young artists in local schools are again celebrating success and achievement in their artistic endeavours at the East Ayrshire Schools' Art and Design Exhibition in the Young People’s Gallery in the Dick Institute, Kilmarnock.

The popular annual event which has been showcasing the best in pupil art, design and creative expression celebrates its 20th year and the art will be on display for public view until 6 April 2019.

Opened by Councilor Elena Whitham Chair of the Board of Trustees for the East Ayrshire Leisure Trust and as Depute Leader of East Ayrshire Council, the event celebrates and displays some of the best work produced by students across a range of different artistic techniques, including photography, mixed media, sculpture and other forms of creative expression.

Eight secondary schools were represented, giving young people a wonderful opportunity of having their artwork displayed in a public gallery – while also offering an insight into the high quality of teaching and artistic guidance across East Ayrshire school art and design departments.

The fabulous East Ayrshire Folk Ensemble performed a magnificent set to entertain guests throughout the evening and the whole event was organised and supported by East Ayrshire Council's Creative Minds team.

There was also a unique opportunity for schools to set up Pop-Up Shops which provided an additional element to the evening and chance for guest to browse and purchase their fabulous selection of artwork.

Commenting on the event and the exhibition, Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning said: “Every year the quality and standard of art and design work on show goes up a level and this year is a case in point.

“The work on show is simply fantastic, a real kaleidoscope of colour, vibrance and energy and I love that we can proudly display it to the public in this annual exhibition.

“I’d encourage anyone with a love of art, an appreciation for design or those looking to be inspired by what our pupils are achieving, to come and see it for themselves!”

The free Schools Art and Design Exhibition is on display in the Young People’s in the Dick Institute, Kilmarnock until Saturday 6 April 2019.
