Schools celebrate Spring Spectacular

160 pupils took part in this year's Schools’ Spring Spectacular Concert, which showcases star performances by talented young musicians from schools across East Ayrshire.

Hosted at Kilmarnock’s Grand Hall, the popular concert opened in rousing style with the schools’ Pipe Band, before a Rock theme kicked in with the String Orchestra performing compositions by Queen and Guns n Roses. There was then a diverse selection of music from Abba to John Rutter sung by the Choir, Traditional Folk Music performed by the Folk Ensemble and from the small screen, the Concert Band played Doctor Who and Game of Thrones. The Grand Finale featured all of the performers in a massed performance of Mull of Kintyre.

Councillor Fiona Campbell, Cabinet Member for Skills and Learning said: “2019/20 has been another wonderful year of opportunity and music making for our young people across East Ayrshire. Many of our school wind bands won top awards at the Scottish Concert Band Festival in December and our String Ensembles will compete at the Ayrshire Music Festival this month. I am also delighted that our Whole Class String programme has been nominated as a Finalist at the Music and Drama Education Awards in London later this month.

“The concert was a wonderful way to celebrate the immense talent, commitment and performance of each and every one of our young performers.”
