Scotland’s charity Employee of the Year!
The Leader of the Council, Councillor Douglas Reid popped into The Killie Community Hub to congratulate Scott Montgomery, Hub Operations Lead on being named Employee of the Year at the recent Scottish Charity Awards.
Scott won the prestigious award for his outstanding contribution to The Killie Community and the people of East Ayrshire. Scott had begun as a participant with The Killie Community after he tragically lost his son, Ben. His extraordinary journey is an example of how just one person can make a significant difference and can encourage positive change in thousands of lives.
Scott said: “The Killie Community is an incredible organisation, which has completely changed my life. I began as a participant and found real purpose through the charity and now I lead programmes that support around 3000 people every year.
“We support everyone in the community, from individuals facing bereavement, those who are on recovery journeys or have physical and mental health challenges, and there is no age limit - one of our participants is 103. The important thing is that we are present, available and ready to support people to take that first step forward.
“It is just an incredible honour to be part of The Killie Community and work with this team, and I mean everyone from the full-time members of staff to the kids that give up their summer holidays to volunteer on our busy holiday programmes. I can’t praise them all highly enough.”
Councillor Douglas Reid, Leader of the Council said: “It was a real honour to visit The Killie Community Hub and congratulate Scott on his award. I can’t think of a more deserving person to receive this award. He has taken his own grief and loss and used his lived experience to help thousands of local people. His story is extraordinary, but it also shows that one person can make a huge difference.
“I would like to thank Jordan Allison and the whole Killie Community team for their work within our communities and the real difference they make. I was grateful for receiving such a warm welcome and it was brilliant to see so many children and young people attending the Hub during the school holidays. Jordan reliably told me that their summer events are the busiest in Ayrshire and I can believe it!”
